Two charged with offering $1.7 million bribe to customs officials

Two men were charged with attempting to offer $1.7 million in bribes to senior Ukrainian customs officials, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) announced via Facebook on July 4.

According to the investigation, the accused offered the leadership of the State Customs Service $1 million in exchange for appointing an associate of theirs as the head of Lviv Oblast Customs. Additional bribes of $500,000 and $200,000 were offered to secure similar appointments at the Volyn and Chernivtsi customs offices.

They also proposed giving the customs leadership half of the illicit income generated through these corruption schemes.
