According to the sources, the Syzran refinery was shut down on Sept. 15, while the Saratov refinery stopped operating on Sept. 11. Reuters contacted Rosneft, the owner of the facilities, for comment but received no response.
The sources said several facilities at the Syzran refinery were damaged in the drone attack, including the main CDU-6 crude distillation unit, which has a capacity of 17,100 metric tons per day, or about 71% of the refinery’s total processing capacity. Repairs could take at least a month.
The refinery’s second crude distillation unit, CDU-5, has a capacity of 7,100 metric tons per day, or 29% of the refinery’s total capacity. It was already undergoing repairs after being hit in a July strike when the Sept. 15 attack occurred.
The Saratov refinery had previously halted operations several times, including after an Aug. 2 attack and strikes on Sept. 8.
Overnight Sept. 15, Russia’s Volgograd and Samara oblasts reported explosions and fires at industrial facilities, including the Sebryakovcement plant and the Syzran refinery.
Overnight Sept. 11, local Telegram channels reported
a drone attack on Saratov and a fire at the local refinery.
