The U.S. president’s special envoy responded briefly: “Soon.”
In 2025, Witkoff visited Russia six times but did not visit Ukraine once.
Earlier on Jan. 22, during discussions at the Ukrainian Breakfast in Davos, Witkoff spoke of “significant progress” in the peace process, which he said was on the “home stretch.”
He also confirmed that he would travel to Russia later in the day for talks with dictator Vladimir Putin.
“I believe we have made significant progress. I think at the beginning of this process there was a small misunderstanding … I am going to Moscow, and I think it was important to go there because we are already on the home stretch,” Witkoff said.
U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy also said he was optimistic about the outcome of the peace talks.
On Jan. 21, Rustem Umerov, head of the Ukrainian delegation in Davos, said the Ukrainian delegation had held another meeting on the sidelines of the forum with U.S. representatives Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff.
U.S. President Donald Trump said during his speech at the World Economic Forum that reaching a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia is now “quite close.” If Kyiv and Moscow fail to do so, “they’re fools,” Trump said.
Earlier, Witkoff and Kushner met on the sidelines of Davos with Vladimir Putin’s special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev.
On Jan. 21, Witkoff said he would travel to Moscow on Jan. 22 for a meeting with Putin.
