U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker has concluded his first official visit to Ukraine, Whitaker said in a Twitter post on Nov. 6.

“Just finished an eye-opening visit to Ukraine with my fellow NATO Ambassadors,” he wrote.

“The visit only reinforced that four years of war is four years too many. While peacemaker-in-chief [U.S.] President [Donald] Trump is leading the efforts to end the war, continued support from our like-minded NATO Allies is critical.”

During the visit, Whitaker and the permanent representatives of NATO members met with Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Shmyhal told reporters that the focus of their discussion was Ukraine’s air defense needs for the coming winter. The General Staff and Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR) briefed the officials on the progress of the Russo–Ukrainian war.

Zelenskyy’s office also reported on the delegation’s meeting with the president, saying it covered both shipments of arms and efforts to pressure Moscow into negotiating a ceasefire.
