“These sanctions target 20 ships of the shadow fleet, including the Ocean Faye, Andaman Skies, and Mianzim, each of which transported more than four million barrels of Russian oil in 2024,” Sky News quoted Starmer.
To date, the UK has imposed sanctions on more than 100 vessels transporting Russian energy resources, including 93 oil tankers.
Starmer noted that these sanctions will increase pressure on Russia's economy.
“As Putin's oil revenues continue to fuel the fire of his unlawful war, Ukrainian families endure cold, dark nights, often without heating, light, and electricity, becoming targets of relentless missile attacks from Russia,” the PM added.
Moreover, Starmer announced an emergency aid package for Kyiv totaling GBP 35 million ($44.5 million) to help repair the national power grid.
