Ground drones can perform any frontline task for Ukraine — military expert

“As of today, we have experience using more than a dozen different modules installed on ground drones. In my opinion, there is no task a ground drone cannot perform instead of a soldier,” Oleksandr said.
He is convinced ground drones can do all the work soldiers do on or near the front line. “The only question is how much imagination we have to implement, apply, and do all this,” he added.
In his view, such ideas are valuable to the extent they replace soldiers’ work — and thus save lives. “Everything is absolutely promising, appropriate, and effective,” Electric said.
He recalled that anything done by a drone could be done by a person, but “if a person did this, they would face huge risk in our Oblast [on the front]. If a drone does it instead, it has the right to life, which means it is expedient and effective,” he said.
From his experience, Oleksandr mentioned installing engineering non-explosive barriers “for tens of kilometers near the front line, and kilometers directly on the front line” using robots.
“Such barriers are effective, but the most effective aspect is that we installed them with drones, not manually. In those conditions, installing this barbed wire by hand is unrealistically dangerous. No one else has repeatedly managed to do it by human means where we installed it,” Electric explained.
He emphasized that engineering work with ground drones “showed unrealistic efficiency due to minimal human participation.”
According to Oleksandr, robots have also been equipped with “machine guns, grenade launchers, flamethrowers, various engineering modules, manipulators, hooks, paws, and similar tools.”
“All showed their effectiveness. It was a matter of expediency and effectiveness in certain areas. We used drones to take out other drones, aerial drones, the dead, the wounded; we blew up and mined engineering barriers — explosive and non-explosive. There are dozens of different options, and they all proved effective because they did the work instead of people,” Electric summarized.
In June 2025, it was reported that soldiers from the ground robotic complexes company of the 93rd Kholodnyi Yar Brigade carried out more than 100 successful missions in May alone.
