Ukrainian producers are developing alternative technologies to counter Russian drones, a General Staff source told NV on Sept. 13.

“Making a laser that blinds a camera is not difficult. The hard part is making a targeting system that will focus on the UAV, since it flies fast and changes trajectory,” he said.

According to him, drones can be countered with a blinding laser, a destructive laser, or with high-frequency powerful magnetic radiation. This refers to antennas that concentrate magnetic waves in space and time to destroy any electronics.

The source said he is convinced that the latest anti-drone technologies must continue to be developed.

“We are one of the few countries that have electromagnetic weapon technologies, and they must be developed. It is promising and technologically advanced. The fight in the electromagnetic spectrum between data transmission technologies and jamming technologies will always exist,” he added.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine constantly adapts its methods of combating Russian strike drones, changing them every two to three months in response to new Russian modifications.

He also said Ukraine is offering its European neighbors, as well as Russia’s neighbors, a joint program to finance the production and development of interceptor drones.

According to Defense Express, since August Russia has been routinely equipping Shahed drones attacking Ukraine with mesh modems, antennas and cameras. This allows the strike UAVs to be converted into FPV drones and transmit data along a “chain.”
