According to Tykhyi, lowering the draft age is “not a point of tension” between Kyiv and its Western allies.
“Yes, we have discussed it, and I would say that Ukraine actually initiates this discussion, usually during our negotiations,” the spokesperson said at a press briefing.
“We inform our partners about the mobilization dynamics in Ukraine.”
Tykhyi added that mobilization is discussed alongside other issues regarding arms supplies, strategy, and general national defense matters.
“I wouldn't say that during the negotiations I have heard or seen [the topic of mobilization] as a point of disagreement or tension,” he said.
The official clarified that there is currently a "lack of adequate weaponry and equipment to outfit the already mobilized men."
On Nov. 27, the AP reported that the United States is urging Ukraine to lower the mobilization age from 25 to 18 years to quickly increase the size of its army. The White House believes Ukraine has all the necessary weaponry and should now focus on increasing the size of its forces.
