Twenty-one air targets intercepted over western Ukraine, official says

A total of 20 Russian missiles and one Shahed attack drone were shot down by air defense units of the Ukrainian Air Command West, Lviv Oblast Governor Maksym Kozytskyi reported on Telegram on Jan. 15 after a massive combined drone and missile attack.

Nineteen Russian Kh-101/Kh-55 and one Kalibr cruise missiles were intercepted over Lviv, Volyn, Zakarpattya, Rivne, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi, and Chernivtsi oblasts in western Ukraine.

According to Kozytskyi, two critical infrastructure facilities in Drohobych and Stryi districts in Lviv Oblast were targeted in the attack.

Earlier that day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukrainian air defences shot down at least 30 of 43 missiles and 70 drones launched by Russian forces.

Russian forces carried out another overnight drone attack on Ukraine followed by a massive missile attack launched by a group of Russian Tu-95MS bombers and from the Black Sea.

Earlier in the day, the National Energy Company Ukrenergo imposed emergency power cuts in Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Zaporizhzhya, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kirovohrad oblasts.
