Overnight Russian attack sees 60 kamikaze drones, 5 missiles intercepted over Ukraine

Ukrainian air defenses shot down 60 Shahed UAVs and five Kh-101 cruise missiles. 

The attack included:

• Three Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles (fired from MiG-31K aircraft over Russia's Lipetsk Oblast);
• One Iskander-M ballistic missile (launched from occupied Crimea);
• One Iskander-K cruise missile (launched from Russia's Voronezh Oblast);
• Five Kh-101 cruise missiles (launched from Tu-95MS bombers over Russia's Volgograd Oblast);
• 81 Shahed attack drones (launched from Yeysk and Russia's Kursk Oblast).
  

Additionally, ten enemy drones were lost from radar and likely crashed within Ukraine's territory. One drone crossed into Belarus, and approximately ten drones remained in Ukraine's airspace.

To counter the air assault, Ukraine deployed aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare systems, and mobile fire groups from its Defense Forces.

The combat operations were conducted across most regions of the country, including Kyiv, Khmelnytskyi, Rivne, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhya, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Zhytomyr, Sumy, Chernihiv, and Kirovohrad oblasts.

Russia launched a combined strike on Ukraine overnight on Aug. 26. Explosions were reported in Sumy and Rivne, among other locations. Additionally, fatalities were reported in Zaporizhzhya and Kryvyi Rih due to the attack.

All aerial targets heading towards Kyiv, including about 15 drones and several missiles, were intercepted and destroyed. The debris fell in the Desnianskyi and Dniprovskyi districts.
