Korniyenko to lead working group on wartime election legislation — media

According to the outlet, the group will be established under the parliamentary committee responsible for electoral matters.

The decision was made by the parliament’s Agenda-Setting Council, the source said.

Korniyenko will lead the group, which will also include representatives from civil society organizations, RBC-Ukraine added.

On Dec. 11, Korniyenko said there were currently no draft laws or bills in parliament concerning elections during wartime. He stressed that organizing elections would require joint efforts focused on security, public participation, and adherence to international democratic standards.

On Dec. 10, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy raised the issue of possible elections during wartime in his evening video address, saying he had discussed the matter in detail with members of the Verkhovna Rada.

A day earlier, responding to journalists after a visit to Italy, Zelenskyy had said he was ready to hold elections during the war. However, he also emphasized that key issues remained unresolved — including security, voting rights for soldiers, and the legal framework to ensure the legitimacy of any vote.

In an interview with Fox News in September, Zelenskyy stated that presidential or parliamentary elections in Ukraine would only be possible after a ceasefire was reached.

Later, in an interview with Axios, Zelenskyy said he had no intention of leading the country in peacetime and promised to ask parliament to organize elections if a truce is achieved.
