While visiting units defending the town, who are experiencing some of the fiercest fighting of the war so far, the general was informed about the situation in subordinate units, as well the defense capabilities of Ukrainian units on the front line.
According to the press service, Syrskyi praised and encouraged the defenders, whom he said were an example of stability, courage, and heroism in the battle for Bakhmut.
The press service added the Russians continue to throw more troops into the battle to capture the town.
“The Russian invaders have thrown the most prepared units of the Wagner PMC and other Russian army regular units to capture the town,” reads the report.
“Fierce fighting is taking place in and around the town.”
Malyar said the decision to hold Bakhmut is purely military, and not political.
Serhiy Cherevatyi, spokesman for the Eastern Group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, said earlier that the Ukrainian military was heroically holding the defense line in the Bakhmut area and weakening the invading Russian forces so that rested reserves with new military equipment could repel them later.
