While the strike will not immediately change the balance of the war, it is expected to cause significant damage to the Russian army's rear facilities, disrupt logistics and maneuver capabilities in the border areas, and further strain Russian air defense systems.
The specific target of the attack is believed to be the 1046th logistics center near the town of Karachev in Russia's Bryansk Oblast, about 200 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
Earlier in the day, Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, reported an attack on the 67th Arsenal of the Russian Main Missile and Artillery Directorate (GRAU) in Karachev with “artillery ammunition, including North Korean, guided bombs, and anti-aircraft missiles.”
Shortly thereafter, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces confirmed the attack, reporting 12 secondary explosions and one detonation as of 02:30 a.m. EET.
"The destruction of ammunition depots for the Russian occupation army to stop the armed aggression against Ukraine will continue," the General Staff said.
The monitoring group Exilenova+ shared a video showing a massive explosion.
This follows an earlier media reports on Nov. 17 that the U.S. Britain, and France had allowed Ukraine to carry out strikes deep into Russian territory with Western-made missiles.
