Ukraine launched more strike drones at Russia in March than Russia launched at Ukrainian territory, marking the first time that has happened since the start of the war, ABC News reported on April 6.

The report cited figures published by the Ukrainian Air Force and the Russian Defense Ministry.

Russia’s defense ministry said it shot down 7,347 Ukrainian drones in March, an average of 237 a day. The channel described that as the highest monthly total Russia has ever reported.

“The defense ministry only publishes figures of Ukrainian drones it claims were shot down,” ABC News specified.

Ukraine’s Air Force said it faced 6,462 Russian drones and 138 missiles of various types during March. Of those, 5,833 drones and 102 missiles — about 90 percent and just under 74 percent, respectively — were intercepted or destroyed. The journalists said this translates to an average of more than 208 drones and four missiles per day in March.

Reporters said they could not independently verify the Ukrainian and Russian data. Experts told ABC News that both sides may overstate the effectiveness of their air defenses or inflate reports of attacks on their forces.
