Zelenskyy marks Unity Day: National solidarity is Ukraine’s shield

Unity Day has long served as a reminder that "only a strong nation can be united."

"Ukrainians have been demonstrating this for 1,429 days of Russia’s full-scale invasion," Zelenskyy said.

"When millions of us are united on both banks of the Dnipro River. We see what our unity is capable of. Our unity stops the ‘second army of the world.’ Unity fights on the frontlines and in the rear. Unity overcomes cold and darkness. Unity has lasted 1,429 days, and therefore, so has Ukraine.”

The greeting also highlighted how Ukrainian society has learned to unite "first and foremost for itself and its country," demonstrating strength when "the east and west are on the frontlines and every Ukrainian fights for every Ukrainian."

Ukraine celebrates Unity Day on Jan. 22. The holiday commemorates the signing of the 1919 Act of Unification, when the Ukrainian People’s Republic and the West Ukrainian People’s Republic joined into a single Ukrainian state.
