Blinken made the statement while addressing students at Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
“Defenders who have been holding the front for over two years require assistance, and they need to rest," the secretary said.
Blinken stated that mobilization allows Ukraine to bolster its defense, create more capable military units, and fortify its borders.
“The United States is helping Ukraine do this in a way that ensures victory not just today but also prevents future attacks,” he added.
“As President Joe Biden has said, we are committed to doing this.”
On April 27, The New York Times reported that U.S. officials had been "pressuring" their Ukrainian counterparts to address mobilization issues.
On April 11, the Ukrainian parliament passed a mobilization reform
bill that comes into effect on May 18. Among other measures to bolster military
recruitment, the legislation lowers conscription age from 27 to 25 years.
