Former Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Andriy Parubiy did not request protection from the National Police or the Security Service, said Andriy Nebitov, Deputy Head of the National Police, during a briefing in Lviv on Sep. 1.
Parubiy's associates did not seek protection either.
“The investigative and operational teams are studying the motives and actively pursuing different avenues,” Nebitov said, adding that the possibility of the crime being instigated by Russia is also being considered.
“Today we can say that the person had the intention to kill. We do not rule out that this was a Russian trace, that this was an order from the Russian Federation.”
The police will seek an arrest warrant for the suspect without the right to bail.
Earlier that day, Ukraine's Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported that the suspect in the Parubiy's murder was tracked down and detained 36 hours after the assassination.
