He said Russia is continuing to focus its efforts in this direction.

"In the Bakhmut area, the Ukrainian army deters about 20 offensive enemy assaults, with artillery support, daily,” Hromov said.

“They’re stubborn about it.”

In order to provide artillery support in the area, invading Russian forces have reduced the number of artillery attacks on Ukrainian positions in Kherson and Zaporizhzhya oblasts.

Bakhmut remains one of the hottest spots on the front line. Russia has been attempting to take the town, without success, for months, but have incurred enormous losses in manpower and materiel.

The commander of Ukraine’s Ground Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said the capture of Bakhmut would be a symbolic victory for the Russian invaders.
