Ukraine’s three active nuclear power plants are now
operating at over 90% of their nominal capacity after Russian air strikes forced
a slowdown on Feb. 7, state news agency Ukrinform reported on Feb. 12.
“After Russia’s latest strike on [adjacent] substations, capacity at nuclear plants is being restored,” Oleh Korikov, head of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine, said.
“More than 90% of capacity has already been restored.”
He said the facilities are now stable and radiation levels at the sites are within normal limits. International Atomic Energy Agency monitoring missions remain active at all NPPs, including Chornobyl and Russia-occupied Zaporizhzhya NPP.
On Feb. 7, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said reactors
at Ukrainian NPPs were throttled down after Russian missiles and drones damaged
their connections to the grid. One reactor, he added, went into automatic
shutdown.
