One of the detainees is a foreign citizen working for the Russian propaganda news channel Russia Today. He was spreading anti-Ukrainian fake news targeting the European Union.
For this, he used his YouTube channel and Telegram messenger with the total audience of more than 500,000 subscribers.
According to the SBU, the supporter of the so-called “Russian World” in his posts and videos justified the destruction of Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure by Russian troops, as well as Russian war crimes against civilians.
In addition, he spread disinformation about the course of hostilities and urged European countries to limit military aid for Ukraine.
While living in Chernihiv Oblast, the foreigner also involved a cohabitating female in his crime.
Both were served with charge papers under Part 3 of Art. 436−2 (justification, recognition of legitimacy, denial of Russian armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants, committed by a group of persons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, another two pro-Russian propagandists were captured in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.
“One of them is a female resident of Pokrov, who spread urges on social media to support the invaders,” the SBU said.
“For this, she hoped to obtain a Russian passport in case of capture of the region. The second pro-Russian agent is a resident of Novomoskovsk. He called for the seizure of power.”
The two perpetrators have faced criminal proceedings under Art. 111−1 (collaborative activity) and Art. 109 (actions aimed at violent change or overthrow of the constitutional order or seizure of state power) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
