The investigation revealed that the group, led by the co-founder of a public organization known for its anti-Ukrainian activities since 2015, planned to announce the dismissal of the country's current military and political leadership during a supposedly peaceful rally in the city center and seize the parliament building to disrupt its functioning.
The group aimed to spread information about the supposed “unrest” in the capital through local and international media to destabilize the socio-political situation in Ukraine for the benefit of Russia.
The main organizer recruited accomplices from various NGOs in Kyiv, Dnipro, and other oblasts of Ukraine. To maintain secrecy, they communicated through messaging apps and met in small groups of three.
The SBU uncovered their intentions, documented their activities, and arrested the organizers. During searches, weapons, ammunition, electronic devices, and evidence of criminal activities were found.
The detainees were charged under Article 109 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (actions and calls for actions aimed at forcibly changing or overthrowing the constitutional order or seizing state power).
The investigation is ongoing. If found guilty, they face up to ten years in prison.
