Government dismisses Kruk as State Emergency Service Head after high-profile helicopter disaster

The government fired Serhiy Kruk as head of the State Emergency Service, Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko announced on his Telegram channel on Aug. 25.

Kruk’s Deputy Director Volodymyr Demchuk will take over his duties.

An internal review within the State Emergency Service concluded and further personnel decisions will be determined based on its findings, Klymenko stated.

Several officials of the State Emergency Service were investigated by the State Bureau of Investigations in August. The Bureau believes that due to their actions, Interior Minister Denys Monastyrskyi and other members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs perished in a plane accident on Jan. 18.

The government dismissed Mykola Chechotkin from the position of State Emergency Service head on Nov. 10, 2021, a role he had held since 2015,

Prior to his appointment, Serhiy Kruk had been the chief of the State Emergency Service in Rivne Oblast in western Ukraine.
