Ukraine strikes fuel station supplying Moscow Oblast and nearby airports

According to the Security Service of Ukraine, the station is an important hub in Russia’s main oil product pipeline system, pumping fuel — primarily diesel — from refineries in central Russia to export ports and domestic consumers. It also supplies major oil depots around Moscow and the Sheremetyevo International Airport, Domodedovo International Airport and Vnukovo International Airport airports.

The Ukrainian drone strike triggered a large fire covering about 800 square meters (8,600 square feet), the agency said.

Unlike Russia, which deliberately targets civilian infrastructure and civilians, Ukraine carries out precise strikes exclusively against military and strategic targets linked to Russia’s war effort, the SBU said.

“The SBU is already preparing new special operations. The intensity of Ukraine’s strikes on Russian territory will only increase. Our long-range sanctions will continue to work,” SBU chief Yevhenii Khmara said.

On May 24, Ukraine’s General Staff said the Defense Forces had struck several targets inside Russia, including an oil loading pier at the Tamanneftegaz terminal in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai.

On May 22, Reuters, citing sources, reported that Russia’s fourth-largest refinery, Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez, had shut down its main crude oil processing unit following a Ukrainian drone strike on May 20.

According to Reuters, nearly all major refineries in central Russia were forced to suspend or reduce production after Ukrainian drone attacks in recent days.
