A ship loaded with components for Shahed attack drones and ammunition from Iran was targeted in an overnight Ukrainian drone strike on the Russian Port Olya in the Volga River delta in Astrakhan Oblast, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported on Telegram on Aug. 15.
The six-berth port with cargo terminals capable of handling 1.58 million tons of cargo annually serves as a vital logistics hub for Russian military supplies from Iran in the Caspian Sea.
The attack was carried out by Special Operations Forces (SOF) units in coordination with other Ukrainian Armed Forces components.
The results of the attack are currently being verified.
Kyiv has repeatedly accused Iran of aiding Russia’s war efforts by regularly supplying drones and weapons. In June, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stated that Tehran is "the source of many problems in the Middle East and beyond."
