Ukraine is testing new weapons to counter Russian guided bombs – General Staff

According to the General Staff, in September–November Ukraine’s Air Force air defense missile units destroyed up to 100 enemy glide bombs.

The military said that under modern wartime conditions, the priority is the development and scaling of unmanned systems and other high-tech means to strike the enemy and repel attacks.

Intelligence reports that Russian forces are taking steps to increase the effectiveness of their airstrikes during mass missile and drone attacks. In response, Ukrainian military officials reported strengthening capabilities to effectively counter Russian strikes.

On Nov. 29, Russia destroyed Mezhivskyi Lyceum No. 1 in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast with a glide bomb. It was the largest school in the Mezhova community, where about 450 children studied daily.

In October 2025, Russia used the highest monthly number this year of guided air bombs against front-line and near-front settlements, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry reported on Nov. 5. In October, Russia launched a record 5,328 glide bombs at Ukraine.

The Guardian has already called this threat Russia’s new advantage on the battlefield, as the “jet-powered” bombs can strike targets far beyond the front line. This threat further burdens Ukraine’s already overstretched air defense system.
