Kyiv has refused to accept a batch of ten German Leopard-1A5 tanks that were in need of repairs, German newspaper Spiegel reported on Sept. 19.

The publication reports that a few days ago, Kyiv had informed the German Defense Ministry that the Leopard tanks, which had arrived in Poland, were in need of major repairs.

The German side then independently inspected the tanks, confirming they "had already seen considerable wear during Ukrainian troop training in Germany, and required repairs."

Spiegel added that there were some Leopard-1A5 tanks, handed over to Ukraine in July, that have broken down due to similar issues.

On July 23, Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak announced that Poland opens a center to repair and service Leopard tanks.

On Aug. 29, it was reported that during the first 13 weeks of Ukraine's counteroffensive, Kyiv’s forces lost five of the 71 Leopard-2 tanks provided by Western allies.
