Ukraine unveils first guided bomb with 250-kg warhead after 17 months of development

He said development of the weapon took 17 months and that the Ukrainian glide bomb features a unique design rather than copying Western or Soviet models.

The bomb is intended to strike fortifications, command posts and other enemy targets dozens of kilometers behind the front line after launch. Its warhead weighs 250 kilograms.

Ukraine’s Defense Ministry has already purchased the first experimental batch of the weapon, while fighter jet pilots are practicing combat scenarios and adapting the bomb’s use to real battlefield conditions, Fedorov said.

“Soon Ukrainian glide bombs will strike enemy targets. We are scaling up solutions that increase strike range and accuracy and change the rules of modern warfare,” the minister wrote on social media.

On May 11, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine was working on developing its own domestically produced guided aerial bombs.
