Ukraine presses UN Security Council for immediate unconditional ceasefire

Deputy Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Volodymyr Pavlichenko appealed to member states to take decisive action at a UN Security Council meeting.
“The paralysis of the UN Security Council regarding Russia’s crimes must be stopped by the international community who still respect rules-based international order,” Pavlichenko said.
“Thus, we once again here appeal to the members of the Security Council to place on the table without further delay a draft resolution calling for immediate and unconditional ceasefire.”
Pavlichenko argued that this step will demonstrate member states’ readiness to support a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine.
The diplomat underscored the importance of continued military support for Ukraine, noting that the delivery of weapons and munitions is a necessary condition to defend the country.
“This is not escalation, but the only strategy to restore peace and to save lives,” Pavlichenko said.
He added that Russia frequently abuses its permanent veto power to block the UN Security Council's work.
The UN Security Council meeting took place amid recent massive Russian attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian oblasts.
