Ukraine’s future security agreement with the United States will be wider in scope than the one recently signed with the UK, head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine on Jan. 22.

“I think the security agreement with the United States will include even more points [than the UK one],” said Yermak.

“I believe it will be even deeper. We are working on it.”

Yermak explained that the treaty with London was signed rather quickly because its major points were previously agreed by senior Ukrainian and UK leadership.

“With the Americans, we are preparing; we have already started the initial consultations,” he added.

“America continues to be our main partner, our ally.”

On Jan. 12, the UK and Ukraine signed a ten-year security agreement.

London will exchange intelligence with Kyiv, assist with cybersecurity, military training, and develop mutual defense-industrial cooperation.

The agreement also commits the United Kingdom to consult with Ukraine in case Russia launches another attack and to provide "rapid and sustained" security assistance.
