“The enemy has once again begun using its Shahed drones closer to the front line, but to no avail,” the defenders said.

They stressed that the UAV was intended to bring death to Ukrainians but was destroyed thanks to the accuracy of Ukrainian air defense troops.

In May, Ukrainian Air Force communications chief Col. Yurii Ihnat said Russian forces were increasingly using jet-powered Shahed drones capable of speeds exceeding 400-500 kilometers per hour.

In June, then-Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi said Russia was changing its drone tactics and planned to increase the share of jet-powered attack UAVs to 50%, creating new challenges for Ukrainian air defenses.

Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War, or ISW, said in a July 2 report that Russia’s modifications to its aerial weapons, including the use of jet-powered Shahed drones that are difficult for Ukrainian air defenses to intercept, were contributing to increased harm to Ukrainian civilians.

On Aug. 14, former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said Ukraine was testing its first jet-powered interceptor drones, which can reach speeds of more than 600 kilometers per hour and are designed to counter Russian jet-powered Shahed drones.
