Ukraine loses MiG-29 in Poltava Oblast as pilot ejects during mission

Ukraine’s Air Force said it lost a MiG-29 fighter jet overnight on June 27 while the aircraft was carrying out a combat mission in Poltava Oblast. The pilot ejected successfully, the Air Force said in a statement.

“We confirm the loss of the aircraft, but the Ukrainian pilot successfully ejected, contacted the search-and-rescue team and was quickly taken to a medical facility for examination and necessary care,” the statement said.

On June 16, Ukraine’s Air Force reported the crash of a Su-24M front-line bomber.

The aircraft belonged to the Petro Franko 7th Tactical Aviation Brigade. Maj. Bohdan Zaharulko and Senior Lt. Bohdan Babenko were killed while carrying out a combat mission. The SBI is investigating the incident.
