Defense Minister Rustem Umerov began work at the 25th
meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in the Ramstein format on Jan. 9, the
Defense Ministry’s press service of Ukraine reported.
Umerov already held an important meeting with Pentagon chief
Lloyd Austin, during which they discussed preparations for the session and key
areas of cooperation.
The minister noted that leaders of the coalitions are
approving “roadmaps” for each of the eight cooperation areas today, outlining
strategic goals and Ukraine’s key military assistance needs at least until the
end of 2027.
According to him, documents developed and agreed upon by
Kyiv and its partners will form the basis for support and aid allocation in
areas such as air defense, artillery, armored vehicles, drones, air forces,
maritime security, and more.
“There’s a lot of work ahead,” Umerov stressed.
The 25th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, set
to take place in Germany, will be the last before Donald Trump returns to the
White House. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy will participate in the
meeting.
On Jan. 8, Poland’s Defense Minister Władysław
Kosiniak-Kamysz said that the Jan. 9 Ramstein-format session might be the last
of its kind.
In November 2024, Umerov emphasized the importance of
continuing the Ramstein format for Ukraine and expressed hope for sustained
support under the Donald Trump administration.
