Andriy Yermak, Head of the Office of the President, and Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov briefed Austin on the current battlefield situation, the urgent needs of the Ukrainian military in weapons and equipment, and recent Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
“This week alone, Russia has launched over 400 missiles and UAVs of various types at Ukraine,” the statement said.
“The Ukrainian side emphasized the need for enhanced air defense systems to protect civilians and critical infrastructure.”
According to the message, the parties also discussed the training of Ukrainian soldiers and joint arms production.
The Ukrainian delegation also included Deputy Defense Minister Oleksandr Balanutsa, Deputy Chief of the General Staff Volodymyr Horbatyuk, and head of Military Logistics Mykola Shevtsov.
