What appears to be a Ukrainian strike drone washed ashore at
the Uzunkum Beach near Istanbul on June 11, according to Turkish newspaper
Hurriyet.
The incident reportedly occurred around 12:30 p.m. local time. The drone, carrying an explosive payload, was removed for examination by the SAS (EOD unit of the Turkish Navy).
Locals initially spotted the drone near the water and immediately alerted the regional coast guard command. Coast guard personnel soon arrived at the scene and set up a broad security perimeter around the beach.
On July 25, 2024, Turkish authorities discovered a jet ski loaded with explosives near Çatalca. Besides explosives, it carried cameras and other assorted military equipment. Media reports speculated the vehicle may have been operated by the Ukrainian military before losing control and drifting across the Black Sea.
