Russia is the world's largest wheat exporter, and most of its exports pass through its Black Sea ports, including Novorossiysk, according to the agency.
An industry source said the Novorossiysk Grain Terminal, which has an export capacity of 8.5 million tons per year, halted operations, and damage assessment is currently underway. A spokesperson for Demetra Holding, which owns the terminal, confirmed only that it had sustained unspecified damage and declined to comment further.
NKHP, another major grain terminal in Novorossiysk with an export capacity of 7.1 million tons per year, was also damaged and halted operations, three industry sources told Reuters.
Its majority owner, Russian state grain company OZK, said the terminal was damaged but that no one was injured.
As previously reported, on Aug. 12, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine's Defense Forces had carried out a "unique operation" striking Russia's naval base in Novorossiysk using Palianytsia drones, Neptune missiles, and unmanned naval systems.
Overnight into Aug. 12, Novorossiysk faced a massive drone attack, with reports of a fire near the local port and a possible strike on a grain elevator.
