Ukrainian drones struck fuel storage facilities in the Russian city of Yaroslavl, causing a fire but no casualties, regional governor Mikhail Evraev said on May 29.

Traffic was halted for several hours on the highway linking Yaroslavl and Moscow. Yaroslavl Airport also suspended flight operations for more than four hours.

The Yaroslavl oil refinery has been targeted by drone attacks several times. Before the latest strike, it was last attacked overnight on May 22.

Ukraine’s military has not yet commented on the latest strike.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said it had shot down 208 Ukrainian drones overnight over Russian territory, occupied Crimea and the Sea of Azov.

Overnight into Monday, May 25, drones targeted Russia’s Yaroslavl region. Local authorities temporarily closed roads leading out of the city toward Moscow.

On May 22, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine’s Defense Forces had carried out a drone strike on an oil refinery in Yaroslavl.

He cited a report from Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi on the use of long-range drones against Russia’s oil refining and export infrastructure.

“We are bringing the war back home to Russia, and that is entirely fair,” Zelenskyy said.

On May 19, Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed a strike on the Yaroslavl-3 oil pumping station near the Russian settlement of Semibratovo. Four oil storage tanks with a combined capacity of 140,000 cubic meters were reportedly damaged.
