Ukrainian flag torn down during Polish candidate Braun’s rally — video

Presidential candidate Grzegorz Braun has taken responsibility for a controversial incident involving the removal of a Ukrainian flag from a town hall building in Poland, a move that sparked widespread criticism.

Braun said the flag would be handed over to the nearest Ukrainian consulate.

Polish authorities have identified the man seen in video footage removing the flag. The video shows an unidentified individual climbing a ladder to the balcony of the town hall, pulling the Ukrainian flag from its mount, and handing it to Braun. The man then replaced it with a Polish flag. Braun shook his hand in apparent thanks.

The April 18 incident is the latest in a string of provocations by Braun.

Earlier this month, he reportedly forced his way into a hospital and threatened to arrest a doctor, accusing her of performing a late-term abortion.

Braun has also disrupted a minute of silence during a parliamentary session commemorating Holocaust victims, discharged a fire extinguisher at a menorah lit for Hanukkah inside the Polish parliament, and vandalized a Christmas tree decorated with European Union and Ukrainian flags.
