Ukrainian air defense forces intercepted and brought down 13 Shahed-136/131 kamikaze drones during a Russian air attack on Ukraine on the night of Aug. 16, the Ukrainian Air Force reported on Telegram on Aug. 16.

The attack drones were making an attempt to target Odesa Oblast, the air force’s press service said.

The launches of the Shaheds took place in a series of successive waves originating from the southeast direction (Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Chauda). The intended targets of these drones were the port facilities within Odesa Oblast, the air force said.

Thirteen of the drones were neutralized within the borders of the Odesa and Mykolaiv oblasts.

While a portion of the offensive drones managed to evade interception, their exact number remains undisclosed for reasons of military secrecy.

One drone impact was recorded at one of Ukraine’s Danube River ports, Oleh Kiper, Head of the Odesa Oblast Military Administration, reported on Telegram.

Warehouses and grain storage facilities suffered damage, resulting in outbreaks of fire.

Following Moscow’s withdrawal from the grain agreement, Russian forces intensified their attacks on port infrastructure in Odesa and Mykolaiv oblasts. This campaign is particularly focused on the destruction of grain storage facilities.
