Amid Russian panic over the upcoming Ukrainian counteroffensive, Ukrainian partisans have ramped up their activities in the Russian-occupied city of Mariupol, the local administration reported on Telegram on May 12.

The message says that despite the real threat to their lives, local partisans continue to decommunize the city even under occupation.

Reportedly, unknown persons smashed a bust of Lenin in Mariupol, installed by the Russian occupation authorities in early 2023 on an alley in the City Garden.

As can be seen in the video, the Bolshevik leader lost his face as a result of the anti-Kremlin action.

"Mariupol residents do not want to return to the USSR and remain 'in Russia', which pulls them back into the past," the city council said.

"They want liberation and return to Ukraine. They know that only then is true development and recovery possible."
