NATO membership is the best option for the country, along with security guarantees from the United States.
A just peace also means having a strong Ukraine that "prevents Putin from coming back with aggression. This is a strong army - this is not what Putin is counting on, this is not 40,000-50,000 conscripts - we understand that with such an army the war will destroy the country, there will be no more independent Ukraine. And we have a historic opportunity - for many years brave people fought for independence and did not succeed, and today we can do it," he said, commenting on Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's unacceptable demands.
"Putin is proposing to legally recognize the loss of our territories, to reduce the army to 40,000-50,000, and to vote in parliament for a neutral status with regard to NATO."
Zelenskyy said Ukraine would not give up its lands or independence.
"Of course, in the future Ukraine will return everything. We must rely on our strengths, do everything to ensure that there is a just peace for Ukraine and strong security guarantees that would make it impossible for Putin to return, and then return everything diplomatically. If there is such an agreement, diplomacy will work. I don't think Putin wants that, to be honest".
