On July 8, Suspilne reported that Zelenskyy had informed Markarova of his intent to dismiss her, though he offered her a role on his team. The president discussed her replacement during a July 4 phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump. Markarova was previously criticized by some of Trump’s political allies as being a figure too close to the previous, Democratic, administration.
