UN Security Council meets to discuss Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha noted that the Security Council session coincides with the opening of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.

Sybiha stated the need to strengthen the role of the General Assembly in responding to Russian aggression and promoting Ukraine’s Peace Formula.

“A number of resolutions, including one on safety of nuclear facilities in Ukraine, adopted after the Peace Summit, shows that the General Assembly is capable of being a leader,” the minister wrote in a Twitter post.

He added that the situation in Russia-occupied territories remains a focal point for the General Assembly. He mentioned that the Ukrainian delegation would present an updated draft resolution on the human rights situation in the temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories, including Crimea.

Sybiha announced that the General Assembly session would feature debates on Russia's crimes in occupied areas of Ukraine.

“This will be another strategic opportunity to raise global awareness and seek justice for Russian atrocities,” he added.
