Police confirmed the discovery of drone debris in Kastre Parish in Tartu County, while information about possible similar incidents in other locations is being verified.
Colonel Uku Arold, head of strategic communications of the Estonian Defense Forces, said several drones entered Estonia’s airspace, likely veering off course during Ukraine’s attacks on Russian targets.
“Ukraine is attacking Russia’s military infrastructure and facilities that support the war, while Russia is trying to repel these attacks, including by diverting drones off course using various means. Most likely, these are such drones that went off course,” he said.
The military said several drones were detected over Estonia by radar and fighter jets, but none were shot down.
Earlier, Estonia declared an air alert due to the appearance of a group of unidentified drones. In particular, flight operations were disrupted: a Finnair aircraft turned back during a flight to Tartu, and the return flight to Helsinki was canceled.
In addition, Latvia’s armed forces said that on March 30 an unidentified drone was detected near the border with Russia, but it did not violate the country’s airspace. Local residents were promptly alerted via SMS, and after the drone moved away, a message was sent confirming there was no threat.
