Authorities have not yet determined the drone’s origin or identified its owner. Investigators plan to collect the debris for further examination, which could help establish the circumstances of the crash.
Police said there is currently no indication of a danger to the public.
Germany has repeatedly investigated acts of sabotage and
espionage in which Russia is the likely culprit. The cases include alleged
preparations for attacks on routes used to deliver military aid to Ukraine, the
arson of a package at a DHL logistics center in Leipzig, and an incident
involving an explosives-laden drone near a Ukrainian Antonov cargo plane at
Leipzig/Halle Airport.
