Ukraine receives tranche of US aid waiting for Congress to approve new funding

The 54th US package since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia included:

●      Additional ammunition for the NASAMS air defense system;

●      Anti-aircraft missiles Stinger;

●      Components of the air defense system;

●      Ammunition for HIMARS;

●      155 and 105 mm projectiles;

●      TOW missiles;

●      Javelin and AT-4;

●      15 million cartridges for small arms and others.

The message of the US Ministry of Defense states that the package includes weapons to meet Ukraine’s most urgent needs of Ukraine. The Pentagon urged the US Congress "as soon as possible" in the new year to approve the president's additional request for aid to Ukraine, as it is a "reasonable investment" in US national security.

On December 6, the bill for financing aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan in the amount of approximately $106 billion failed to pass a procedural vote in the US Senate due to Republican demands for stricter migration policies.

Before the vote, US President Joe Biden called on Congress to urgently approve an aid package for Ukraine so that the US would not have to send American troops to fight the Russians.

The reason for the blocking of aid to Ukraine by the Republicans is their desire to strengthen the border with Mexico and have conditioned Ukraine's aid on implementing their preferred border policy. Democrats did not agree.

On December 18, the Bloomberg agency, citing the Pentagon, wrote that by December 30, 2023, the US Ministry of Defense will run out of funds for the purchase of new weapons, which will replace the equipment sent to Ukraine.
