Miller made the statement during a press briefing, as reported by Voice of America journalist Ostap Yarysh.
Previously, the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv announced it would not be operational on Nov. 20 due to a "credible threat" of a major air strike on the city. At least three other embassies in the Ukrainian capital — those of Italy, Spain, and Greece — subsequently announced similar decisions.
Sources at the U.S. Embassy later told NV that the closure is linked to the threat of a conventional drone and missile attack, not to an escalation in Russia's nuclear rhetoric.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the rumors of a massive Russian attack during his evening remarks on Nov. 20.
“There was a lot of anxiety today and questions about some particular threat,” the president said.
“We have already endured so many brutal and treacherous attacks from Russia. We must always pay attention to air raid alerts. We have such a neighbor — a mad one. Today, on the 1,001st day of the full-scale war, Russia is just as mad as it was on the 1,000th day and on Feb. 24 [2022].”
