U.S. Vice President JD Vance will attend a Budapest campaign rally for Hungarian PM Viktor Orban on April 7, five days before the high-stakes April 12 election, local outlet 24.hu reported on April 3.

The report said Vance and Orban will hold a joint news conference, after which the PM will lead a large campaign rally at the MTK Sportpark stadium that Vance will also attend.

Reuters earlier reported the planned visit, citing sources who said the trip was intended to demonstrate support for Orban, who, according to recent polls, is trailing his rival ahead of the vote.

On March 25, U.S. President Donald Trump said he gave Orban his “full support” and urged Hungarians to vote for him in the parliamentary election. On April 1, Reuters cited two polls showing the opposition party Tisza had increased its lead over Orban’s ruling Fidesz party.
