JD Vance to support Orban’s election campaign with Budapest visit

U.S. Vice President JD Vance plans to visit Hungary and publicly endorse Prime Minister Viktor Orbán ahead of the April 12 parliamentary elections, Reuters reported March 18, citing sources.

Reuters added that the timing of Vance’s visit is uncertain and his plans could change. Senior White House officials may prefer to remain in Washington while a U.S.-Israeli military operation against Iran is under way. President Donald Trump has said he is postponing a trip to China because of the war. The White House did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment, the agency added.

On Feb. 5, Trump reiterated his support for Orbán, calling him “a true friend, a fighter, and a winner” and saying he fully supports Orbán’s re-election bid, Reuters noted.
