The Volgograd oil refinery, owned by Russia’s Lukoil, has halted operations after Ukrainian drones struck the facility in the early hours of Nov. 6, Reuters reported, citing sources.

According to those sources, the attack damaged the main crude distillation unit, known as CDU-5, which has a daily capacity of 9,100 metric tons, roughly 20 percent of the plant’s total capacity. The hydrocracking unit, which can process 11,000 metric tons of feedstock a day, is also damaged.

“The plant has been stopped,” Reuters quoted one of its sources.

“CDU-5 was on fire, there is some damage to the hydrocracker.”

In 2024, the Volgograd refinery processed 13.7 million metric tons of crude, about 5.1% of Russia’s total capacity.

Local Telegram channels reported a series of explosions in Volgograd that night, and residents said air-defense systems were engaged against attacking drones. Ukraine’s General Staff later confirmed its forces had struck the refinery.
