Duda made the request during a meeting with the Ukrainian president in Warsaw on Jan. 15.
“We also discussed potential peace talks,” Duda said at a joint press briefing with Zelenskyy.
“I say 'potential' because currently, there are no peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, but we talked about possible peace talks. I assured the president that I raise the issue at every international forum to ensure that Ukraine is always at the table in any peace discussions.”
He reiterated that no negotiations to end the war can take place without Ukraine’s participation.
“I also asked President Zelenskyy to consider having a Polish representative at the negotiation table, as Poland is a neighbor to Ukraine and supports Ukraine, because our interests align in this matter,” the Polish president added.
On Jan. 9, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump stated that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin wants to meet with him, and that organizing talks has already begun. Speaking at a press conference Trump expressed hope that it would take him six months to find a way to end the war.
